Jinat tigress spotted 30km from Jhargram border, Forest Dept intensifies search

The tigress, Jinat, has been sighted in the Sonajhuri forest near Chiarbandhi in Jharkhand’s Chakulia range, located about 30 kilometers from the Jhargram district border. The forest department is closely monitoring her movements, as she is roaming near human settlements. Jinat is a Royal Bengal Tiger, and her presence has raised significant concern among local authorities, prompting swift action from the forest department to capture her safely and prevent any potential danger to residents.

In response to the tigress’s movements, the forest department has imposed Section 163 in several areas, including Chiarbandhi, Pandrasholi, Dhadka, and Khardbandha, which restricts public access to the affected zones. Security measures have been ramped up, and the forest department is conducting continuous surveillance in the region to track Jinat’s location. The Chakulia forest division is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts to ensure safety in the affected areas.

To capture the tigress, the forest department has placed three buffaloes as bait near the forest’s edge. While Jinat killed one buffalo, she has not yet been trapped. According to forest officials, the situation did not allow the immediate use of tranquilizing darts, as they deemed it unsafe to proceed with the operation under current conditions. However, plans to attempt using tranquilizers again are underway, and authorities are prepared to take further action to capture her.

The forest department is focusing on ensuring both the safety of the public and the welfare of the tigress. Surveillance teams remain on high alert, with additional personnel deployed to secure the perimeter and monitor Jinat’s movements. The department has stressed the importance of controlling the situation promptly, with ongoing efforts to bring the tigress into custody as soon as possible.
